How much do social listening tools cost?

By Anil Salvi

Short answer

Social listening tools start between roughly $29 and $2,500 a month depending on who they are built for. Self-serve tools aimed at small teams open around $29 to $79 a month — Awario at $29, Syften at $29.95, Mentionlytics at $49, BrandMentions at $79. Mid-market suites open higher: Brand24 at $199 a month on annual billing. Enterprise buyer-intelligence platforms start far above that, with Common Room at $2,500 a month billed annually. Three things move the price: how many mentions you collect, how many keywords you track, and whether API access is included or gated behind a higher tier.

  • The entry price spread in this category is roughly 85x, from $29 to $2,500 a month, because the tools are sold to different buyers.
  • API access is the most common hidden cost: some vendors include it, others gate it behind plans costing $499 to $1,099 a month.
  • Annual billing is typically 30–40% cheaper than monthly in this category; one vendor offers no annual option at all.
  • Mention volume is the usual metering unit, so the published price is a floor rather than what you end up paying.

What do social listening tools actually charge?

Entry prices as published by each vendor, checked on 17 September 2026. Where a vendor bills annually and monthly at different rates, the annual rate is shown first because that is the one advertised.

Why is the price range so wide?

Because “social listening tool” covers three different products sold to three different buyers, and comparing their entry prices directly is close to meaningless.

TypeTypical entryWhat you are paying for
Alerting tools$29–$50/moKeyword alerts across communities, little analysis
Listening suites$49–$199/moSentiment, share of voice, reporting, multi-user
Buyer-intelligence platforms$2,500/mo+Identity resolution, CRM enrichment, GTM workflows

A team that needs to know when its name comes up on Reddit and a team that needs to join anonymous web traffic to CRM records are not in the same market, even though both products get filed under listening.

What drives the price up beyond the entry plan?

The published price is a floor. Four things move you off it, usually within the first quarter.

  • Mention volume. Most vendors meter on mentions collected per month, and entry plans are deliberately tight — a few thousand mentions goes quickly for a consumer brand.
  • Keyword or topic count. Entry plans commonly allow three to five, which covers your brand and one competitor and nothing else.
  • Seats. Several vendors put one user on the entry plan, so the second person to need access is a tier upgrade rather than a seat fee.
  • History. How far back a tool will backfill on signup, and how long it keeps what it collects, both tend to rise with the tier.

Which costs are hidden until you look?

API access is the one that surprises people most, because it is rarely mentioned in a demo and it is the difference between a tool you can build on and a dashboard you have to visit.

VendorAPI available fromPractical effect
AwarioEvery plan, from $29/moIncluded
SyftenStandard, $49.95/moWebhooks and MCP on the $119.95 tier
OctolensEvery plan, from $159/moIncluded, with webhooks and MCP
BuskaGrowth, $99/mo500 requests a month at that tier
Brand24Paid add-on, +$149/moOn top of your plan
MentionlyticsPro, $499/moFour tiers above entry
BrandMentionsEnterprise, from $1,099/moEffectively enterprise-only
Where API access sits, by vendor
  • White-label reporting is usually a higher tier, which matters if you are an agency billing clients.
  • Extra platforms are sometimes add-ons rather than included — one vendor charges separately for X and YouTube coverage.
  • Historical backfill beyond the default window is a common paid extra.
  • Managed or done-for-you service, where offered, sits well above the software price.

How should you budget for year one?

  1. 1Count your real keyword set first: brand, misspellings, products, executives and the two or three competitors you actually care about. That number, not the price, decides your tier.
  2. 2Estimate mention volume by searching your brand manually on your two loudest channels for a week and multiplying up. Vendors will do this for you, generously.
  3. 3Decide whether anyone will need the data outside the dashboard. If yes, check where API access starts before you shortlist — it can be the single biggest line item.
  4. 4Assume annual billing. In this category it is typically 30–40% below monthly, and one vendor does not offer monthly at all.
  5. 5Budget for one tier above the entry plan. Entry tiers in this category are built to be outgrown.

Where BrandRobin sits on this table

BrandRobin is not the cheapest entry price in the category and this page says so plainly — Awario and Syften both open lower. Where it is hard to beat is what the middle tier includes, because the features teams actually outgrow their entry plan for are on it rather than four tiers up.

  • Starter $49 a month, Growth $129, Scale $299 — all published
  • API and webhooks on Growth at $129, where Mentionlytics opens at $499 and BrandMentions at $1,099
  • Competitor tracking included at $129 rather than sold as a separate product
  • Seventeen named channels, so the coverage you are paying for is checkable

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free social listening tool?
Google Alerts is free and covers indexed web pages, which means it misses most social platforms, review sites and communities. Several paid vendors offer free trials of seven to fourteen days, usually without a card. There is no free tier in this category that covers social platforms properly, because the data access itself costs the vendor money.
Why do vendors hide their pricing?
Enterprise-focused vendors gate pricing behind a demo because their deals are negotiated and volume-dependent. It is a reliable signal about who a tool is built for: if you cannot see a price, you are probably not the target buyer, and the number is likely four or five figures a month.
Is monthly or annual billing better?
Annual is typically 30–40% cheaper in this category, but it commits you before you know your real mention volume — which is the variable most likely to force a tier change. Running monthly for the first quarter and then switching to annual once your volume is known usually costs less than guessing the tier up front.
How much should an agency expect to pay per client?
Agencies are charged by workspace or client account rather than by seat, and the tiers that include white-label reporting generally start in the $249 to $399 a month range. The relevant question for a shortlist is how many client workspaces a tier includes, because that is what caps how many brands you can run on one subscription.
Does BrandRobin publish its prices?
Yes. Starter is $49 a month for one brand, Growth is $129 and adds competitor tracking, webhooks and the API, and Scale is $299 with white-label reports and 15-minute refresh. All start with a seven-day trial and no card. We put API access on the middle tier deliberately, because gating it behind a four-figure plan is the most common complaint about this category.

How this was put together

Every price on this page was read off the vendor's own public pricing page on 17 September 2026 and is linked above. Nothing here is estimated, modelled or averaged. Where a figure would have required an estimate — typical mention volumes, all-in year-one cost — the page says we do not have it rather than supplying a number that would not survive being checked. Prices in this category move, so re-check the vendor pages before budgeting.
