Alerts and digests

Hear about it at 402 mentions, not at 4,000.

  1. 01

Your normal, not a round number

A threshold somebody typed once fires every Monday and misses the week that mattered. Spikes are measured against your own rolling volume, per channel, so the alert means something.

  2. 02

The post, not just the count

Every alert carries the mention that started it, how fast it is growing and who is carrying it, so the first click is the thread rather than a dashboard.

  3. 03

Silence is part of the product

Most days do not need an alert, and on those days we send nothing. A channel your team mutes has failed, however good the detection was.

What it is

An alert is a promise that this was worth the interruption.

Every team that has run listening tools has muted one. It happens when a tool treats every mention as news, which trains people to ignore the channel exactly when something real appears. Good alerting is mostly restraint: a high bar, a clear reason, and nothing on a quiet day.

A keyword alert
Fires on every match. Useful for an hour, muted by the end of the week.
Threshold alerts
Fire on a fixed number that was a guess, so they are loud in busy weeks and silent in the one that counted.
What we do
Compare against your own rolling normal per channel, rank by what it would cost you to miss, and stay quiet otherwise.

Read across 17 named channels, from Facebook and Reddit to news, reviews and podcasts.

What it answers

The four things people ask before they trust an alert channel.

Usually because the last tool got at least one of them wrong, and the team has been ignoring a channel ever since.

“When do I get told?”
Within minutes of a spike crossing your own baseline. Hourly checks on Growth, every 15 minutes on Scale.
“How do I stop the noise?”
Set the bar per listener and per channel, mute a theme you already know about, and cap how many alerts a day you will accept.
“Where does it land?”
Slack, Microsoft Teams, email or a webhook into whatever you run. Different severities can go to different places.
“What is actually in the message?”
The post that started it, the size and speed of the move, the channel, the accounts carrying it, and a link straight to the thread.

How it works

Set the bar once. Then mostly hear nothing.

The work is in deciding what deserves an interruption. After that the quiet days are the product working.

    • Choose the triggers: sentiment spike, volume spike, a named competitor, a keyword
    • Set severity, and a daily cap so a bad day cannot flood the channel
    • Route each severity to Slack, Teams, email or a webhook

Who it is for

For the people who get the call when it has already gone wrong.

Brand and social teams

Brand and social managers

A thread grew overnight and you found out from your CEO, who found out from LinkedIn.

An alert at 22:14 with the post that started it, while the thread is still small enough to matter.

RedditRedditNegative

Still waiting on my refund after 11 days.

Communications and PR

Comms and crisis leads

By the time the clipping service sends it, three outlets have already run the story.

News, blogs and trade press alerting on the same clock as social, routed to whoever is on duty.

XXNegative

Acme's statement doesn't actually address what happened.

Marketing and PR agencies

Agencies on the hook out of hours

Five clients, and no way to know which one is having a bad night without watching all five.

A channel per client, severity routing, and a daily cap so nobody's Slack becomes unusable.

FacebookFacebookNegative

Third time this month the order was wrong.

Honest note: an alert tells you something is happening in public and links you to it. It does not reply for you, escalate to an on-call rota on its own, or cover private Slack, Discord and WhatsApp groups. Reply management is not in the first release, and we will not list it here until it ships.
