X (Twitter) monitoring

By the time it reaches your inbox, it has already been quoted forty times.

A post on X does most of its work in the first hour. It does not travel by being replied to. It travels by being quoted, and every quote lands in front of people who never saw the original.

Three weeks on @Fernway after two years of spreadsheets. First month I have not chased a single missing shipment.

Worth it for the depot view alone. Should have moved last year.

Third person this month saying the same thing about @Fernway. Whatever they changed in the depot view, it landed.

That network never saw the first post. The quote is what reached them.

Worth a look at Quillo as well — our depot module ships next month. Happy to walk anyone through it.

XPosts and quote posts are what we track. Replies are shown for context.

One post, 1,204 likes and 94.2K views. One quote, 6,910 and 487K — five times the reach, to people who never saw it. The competitor pitching underneath is in a reply, and replies are not what we read.

Why X (Twitter) specifically

Reddit gives you years. LinkedIn gives you two days. X gives you about an hour.

A forum thread grows by being replied to, which keeps it in one place. A post on X grows by being quoted, which does the opposite. Every quote carries it to a new audience with somebody else's framing on top, and the version most people read is not the one you were mentioned in.

One hour, from post to over

    1 post

“Three weeks on @Fernway after two years of spreadsheets. First month I have not chased a single missing shipment.”

One customer, posting in good faith, to four thousand people who follow them.

  2. 14:19XX· from the post

    94.2K views

“this is the third one of these I have seen this month”

It starts being quoted. Each quote is a new post, going somewhere the first one did not.

  3. 14:40XX· quote post

“Third person this month saying the same thing about @Fernway. Whatever they changed in the depot view, it landed.”

One quote outruns the post five times over. The framing on top of it is not yours.

  4. 15:02XX· already spent

    Over

Nothing left to answer. A digest that runs tonight reports on this tomorrow.

Every figure here is the same one the cards above use. The hour is not a way of saying quickly — it is the window, and it closes.

Posts and quote posts per day, last three weeks

The five groups above sum to the 412 total. X keeps no office hours.

Your handle is in the original, so that is the one that reaches you. The quote that carried it to 487K views is a different post entirely. Watching your mentions is not the same as watching what spreads.

What you can track

The quote is the story, not the reply underneath it.

How far it got matters more than how many said it. Reach is the number X gives you about a person, and the quote is where the reach is.

  • Posts and quote posts

A quote post is a new post going to a different network, with somebody's own framing wrapped around yours.

The quote with 6,910 reached more people than the post with 1,204.

  • The first hour

Most of the reach happens before you have read the alert. A daily digest arrives after it is over.

By tomorrow there is nothing left to answer.

  • Mentions without a tag

People type a product name mid-sentence, misspell it, or drop the @. “switched to fernway last month” is about you and reaches nothing.

Your mentions tab is the smaller half of what is said.

  • Before the press does

X is where a customer complaint becomes a story, because it is the channel reporters watch first.

The hour you have is the hour before somebody writes it up.

From a post to a quote

One post is an opinion. The quote is the reach.

X sorts itself by reach. The post starts it, the quote carries it, and the quote is what most people end up seeing.

  1. 01Posted

    One post

“Three weeks on Fernway and I have not chased a single missing shipment.” 4,210 followers, 14:02.

  2. 02Quoted

    One quote post

An operations account adds a line on top. It now reaches 487K people who never saw the first post.

  3. 03Peaked

    Inside an hour

Seventy-one per cent of the reach happens before 15:00. What is left carries somebody else's framing.

  4. 04Answered

    While it moves

Your team replies under the post that is travelling, not the one that named you.

Worked example

  1. “Three weeks and not one missing shipment”, 14:02
  2. Alert in Slack within minutes
  3. Quoted to 487K views by 14:40
  4. You answer the quote, not the original

Answer it inside the hour, not in tomorrow's digest.

Name the brands, competitors and phrases that matter, or let us propose them from your website. Public posts and quote posts, with the reach behind each one and the buying questions pulled out.

What we track here is public posts and quote posts. The replies underneath a post are not covered, so an answer left in a reply thread will not reach you — on X we read the post and the quotes that carry it. What we never do: post, reply, quote, like, follow, message anyone or automate anything inside X, which most people still call Twitter. Protected accounts, direct messages, Communities and anything behind a login are not covered.
